City Opens Löberstraße to Cyclists Both Ways, Boosting East-West Route
The city has opened a section of Löberstraße for cyclists in the opposite direction, allowing them to travel more efficiently along the east-west cycling axis. The change, which follows adjustments to motor vehicle detours, aims to promote cycling and reduce car usage.
Previously a one-way street, the section of Löberstraße between Bismarckstraße and Goethestraße now allows cyclists to travel in both directions. Motorists have been rerouted to Berliner Straße, freeing up space for cyclists. Initially, motor vehicle traffic will have limited escape routes due to narrow lanes and one-sided parking. However, resident parking spaces previously on Löberstraße have been moved to Lonystraße.
The change connects the popular cycling route on Goethestraße, enabling cyclists to pass through without turning onto Bismarckstraße and then into Lonystraße. Other measures to strengthen the east-west cycling axis include installing a median for crossing Berliner Platz, designating a bike street in Roonstraße, and opening a one-way street section on Alienstraße.
The opening of the Löberstraße section to cyclists in both directions is expected to make cycling more attractive and reduce car usage, particularly for short distances. Motorists have been rerouted to Berliner Straße, and parking spaces on Goethestraße have been adjusted to improve visibility. These changes are part of the city's ongoing efforts to strengthen the east-west cycling axis.
