Chevrolet Unveils 2027 Bolt with Native NACS Charging Port and Improved Features
Chevy's 2027 Bolt undergoes a design revamp and introduces NACS charging technology.
Chevrolet has announced the upcoming release of the 2027 Bolt, a significant upgrade from its predecessor with a focus on modern technology, improved performance, and increased compatibility.
The highlight of the new Bolt is the adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug, which is Tesla's proprietary charging connector. This means the Bolt will have native, adapter-free access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, significantly enhancing fast-charging convenience and coverage for owners.
The vehicle is expected to start around $30,000 and go up to about $35,000 depending on trim and options. It will feature updated styling based on the slightly larger, more SUV-like Bolt EUV with fresh front and rear designs and LED headlamps. While full specs including exact range are not yet officially released, it is anticipated to have a range exceeding 300 miles and fast-charging capability of 150 kW or higher.
The Bolt will be built on an updated version of GM’s BEV2 platform, possibly the Ultium platform, which promises improved battery performance, greater efficiency, and faster charging. The Bolt will use a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry aimed at cost efficiency and longevity. Standard tech features expected include wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and possibly GM’s Super Cruise driver assistance system.
Production is slated to begin in late 2025 at GM's Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, with availability targeted for late 2026 or early 2027. Government EV tax credits up to $7,500 may apply, which could make the Bolt even more affordable for buyers.
The design of the 2027 Bolt includes a revised front fascia, a sleeker taillight design, and updated wheels with a black gloss finish. The vehicle is not an entirely ground-breaking redesign but marks a significant upgrade over the outgoing model. However, it should be noted that the new Bolt will miss out on federal EV tax credits as they are set to expire in the fall of 2025.
No interior images or full specs were released for the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt at the time of the announcement. The new Bolt will be the first Chevrolet EV to ship with the NACS plug as standard equipment, providing direct access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. It is set to be released for the 2027 model year and will be produced at the same plant as its predecessor, GM's Fairfax assembly plant in Kansas.
Deliveries of the new Bolt are expected to start in 2026, making it the first Chevrolet EV to be delivered in that year. The new Bolt is expected to be a competitive offering in the EV market, combining affordability, range, and fast-charging capabilities with the added convenience of Tesla Supercharger access.
- With the adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug, the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt owners will enjoy native, adapter-free access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, enhancing their fast-charging convenience and coverage.
- The 2027 Bolt's improved features include faster charging capabilities, thanks to using a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry aimed at cost efficiency and longevity.
- As electric vehicles (EVs) become more integrated into daily lifestyles, the revised charging port of the 2027 Bolt showcases a compelling example of technology's progress in the car-maintenance sector, especially for electric cars like the Bolt.
