Chemnitz Mayor's Asia Trip to Boost Saxony's Semiconductor Industry
Chemnitz Mayor Sven Schulze is embarking on a significant diplomatic mission from September 29 to October 5, travelling to Asia to foster ties and explore collaborative opportunities for the city and Saxony's semiconductor industry. The journey begins in Taiwan, where Mayor Schulze will represent Saxon municipalities in a high-level delegation. He aims to bring Chemnitz's interests into the growing network between Saxony and Asia, and to explore joint project opportunities. Chemnitz's unique facility, the European Test and Reliability Center (ETRC) of Fraunhofer ENAS, is expected to play a key role in these discussions. During his visit, Schulze will meet with Dr. Eva Langerbeck of the Foreign Trade Chamber (AHK) Asia. He will also represent the city in Japan, meeting with Jiro Kogi of EU-Japan Fest and presenting an invitation to Makoto Takashima, the Chairman of the Operating Committee of EU-Japan Fest. The trip will culminate in Singapore, where Fraunhofer ENAS will sign a cooperation agreement with the A*STAR Institute of Microelectronics (IME). Additionally, Fraunhofer Singapore Research Ltd will sign a cooperation agreement with the Fraunhofer Institute ENAS, further strengthening ties between the institutions and local partners such as the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The cooperation aims to develop new technologies for electric mobility, innovative sensor applications, and Smart Health. This opens up access to one of the most dynamic innovation spaces in Asia, promoting international competitiveness for Chemnitz and Saxony's semiconductor industry. Mayor Sven Schulze's trip to Asia from September 29 to October 5 is set to intensify contacts, expand networks, and open up new opportunities for cooperation in economy and research. The visit is expected to bring significant benefits to Chemnitz and Saxony's semiconductor industry, fostering international competitiveness and driving innovation in key sectors.
