Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA@12) Emphasizes Grassroots Empowerment and Digital Inclusion
The 12th edition of the Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA@12) is set to celebrate journalism and storytelling that highlight the impact of technology on micro-communities (barangays) across the Philippines. The theme for this year's awards is "Digitally Forward: One Barangay at a Time," reflecting the focus on grassroots empowerment and digital inclusion.
GMEA@12 aligns with the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) agenda on digital inclusion by emphasizing increased access to technology for disadvantaged communities. This year's awards aim to honour stories that show how digital inclusion can transform everyday lives by creating new opportunities through technology, reflecting Globe’s vision of a better and more inclusive Philippines where no one is left behind.
The Integrated Media category includes entries published on traditional (TV, radio, and print) and new digital platforms. The Digital Storytelling category, which includes entries for Best Blog Post and Best Social Media Video, also forms part of this year's awards. Entries will be judged based on content, storytelling style, impact, and integration.
Special Awards will be given exclusively to First Place winners in various categories. These include the Newsmaker of the Year, Editor of the Year, and Globe of Good Story of the Year (formerly known as Kwentong Tagumpay Community).
The submission period for GMEA@12 is from July 21 to August 31, 2025. The submission portal goes live on July 30, 2025, and can be accessed at http://globe.com.ph. Globe invites media practitioners and content creators from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao to submit work published or aired between September 2024 and August 2025.
