Campus initiative intensifies: rapid advancement in the creation of an unrestricted high-tech hub
The city of Ingolstadt, Germany, is set to transform its former refinery site into a cutting-edge technology hub known as the Digital.Campus. This ambitious project, a collaboration between Audi AG, the IFG Ingolstadt, and the IN-Campus GmbH, aims to integrate digital technologies with real-world challenges, particularly in sustainability, smart city strategies, and e-mobility.
The strategic orientation of the Digital.Campus is along five thematic fields: Digital.mobility, Digital.defense & security, Digital.production & medtech, Digital.administration, and Digital.energy & environment.
In the thematic field of Digital.mobility, the focus is on new forms of networked mobility based on existing competencies in the city. The Digital.defense & security field considers a strategic field of action, with a view to the region's existing competencies in defense technology and security technologies. Digital.production & medtech has potential for robotics, artificial intelligence, and medical technology. Digital.administration focuses on digital services and AI applications in administration and corporate management. The thematic field "Digital.energy & environment" aims to develop the Digital.Campus into a model quarter for intelligent, climate-neutral energy supply.
The new marketing strategy forms the framework for further development and settlement, with the goal of winning technology-oriented companies from Germany and abroad for the location. The Digital.Campus is expected to create workplaces, research institutions, and innovation spaces with model character, directly at the interface between industry, science, and digitization.
The 75-hectare site of the Digital.Campus has been extensively renovated in recent years and dedicated to industrial areas in large parts. The press conference presented the content profile for the future use of the Digital.Campus site, marking a significant milestone for the IN-Campus GmbH. The new marketing strategy was decided by the shareholders' meeting of IN-Campus GmbH on June 25, 2025.
The development of the Digital.Campus is being done with the aim of creating a future-oriented technologies hub. The mayor, Dr. Michael Kern, stated that the thematic breadth and content precision of the clusters make a clever connection between location strengths and diversification strategies possible. The Digital.Campus is also set to facilitate the settlement of companies in the growing field of digital security and defense technology.
In the coming years, the Digital.Campus is expected to become a beacon for sustainable urban development and innovation, leveraging partnerships among higher education, industry, and the city of Ingolstadt.
