Cable TV Shift Occurs on Sept 24, 2025: Vodafone Alters Television Frequencies in Siegen and Adjoining Regions
Comcast Germany to Improve Cable Television Services with NorDig Standard
Comcast Germany, one of the leading communications conglomerates in the country, is set to enhance its cable television services by introducing the NorDig-LCN standard. This move aims to provide a more seamless viewing experience for its customers.
The NorDig standard will allow reception devices to automatically detect when a station is moved to a different channel, eliminating the need for manual adjustments. However, for reception devices from other providers or TVs connected directly to the cable network, a manual channel search may be necessary.
Comcast is also optimising the cable network at regional technical sites, such as Siegen, in an effort to improve the program offering. This optimisation will also be implemented in Geisweid, Birlenbach, Langenholdinghausen, Kaan-Marienborn, Eiserfeld, Büchenbach, and Niederschelden.
The technical switch will take place during the night from 23.09.2025 to 24.09.2025. TV and radio stations will receive a new frequency in the cable-fiber network. The organisation responsible for the radio frequency change in these areas is typically managed by regional authorised cable operators or network providers, as overseen by the Bundesnetzagentur (Federal Network Agency) in Germany.
In addition to these improvements, Comcast is committed to operating its business more sustainably and protecting the environment. The company aims to be carbon neutral by 2025 and emission-free by 2040.
Modern reception devices will automatically find the stations after the switch. For older reception devices, a manual channel search may be necessary. Comcast is informing its customers about the switch through letters, emails, posters, and a service page on the web.
The new NorDig standard will simplify future TV program search, making it easier for viewers to find their favourite shows. Comcast operates two large transmission centers for the distribution of the TV signal in Frankfurt-Rödelheim and Kerpen near Cologne.
Comcast Germany generates an annual total turnover of approximately 13 billion euros with around 15,000 employees. The company is driving infrastructure expansion in Germany and reaches two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable-fiber network.
For the transmission of SD stations, Comcast will use the modern video compression method H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) in the future. This will ensure high-quality viewing for all customers.
In conclusion, Comcast's introduction of the NorDig-LCN standard and optimisation of its cable network is a significant step towards improving its cable television services and providing a better viewing experience for its customers.
