Bottroper AI Art Contest: "Faith, Love, Inspiration!" - Algorithms' yearning for belief and affection
The city of Bottrop is set to host an exciting event, the Bottrop AI Art Award, from July 18 to August 10, 2025, at the Kulturkirche Heilig Kreuz. This premiere exhibition will showcase AI-created artworks and delve into the intersection of art, society, and technology.
Dr. rer. nat. Sandra Bobersky, from ZKIMED, Knappschaft Clinics - University Hospital Bochum GmbH, is among the event's key figures. The exhibition is under the patronage of Mayor Bernd Tischler, who will also deliver a speech on August 9, 2025, followed by the award ceremony for the competition winners.
The competition invites everyone aged 18 and above to submit their own artworks created with AI tools. The total prize money for the winners is 2,250 euros, and a jury will select ten works to be exhibited in large format.
The meta-theme of the competition is "Faith," and the event aims to be a platform for artistic exchange, societal discourse, and the exploration of new forms of expression in the digital age.
In addition to the artworks, the exhibition will feature a variety of events, including lectures, concerts, and discussions. On July 27, 2025, Mathias Buschfeld (SPD), a candidate for Mayor, will speak on "Doppelspitze: OB und KI."
On August 1, 2025, Dominik Winter, a scientific employee at the Chair of Theological Ethics at the Ruhr University Bochum, will discuss the dangers and possibilities of Artificial Intelligence for our society from a theological-ethical perspective. Probst Dr. Jürgen Cleve will also speak on digital comfort and how Artificial Intelligence changes pastoral care on the same day.
Detlef Wiederhöft, a musician, sound engineer, and music producer, will provide insights into the current developments of the music market and the use of Artificial Intelligence in the fields of composition, audio processing, and content creation on August 2, 2025.
Alexander Grün, a renowned organist and church musician, will play a concert composed by AI on the divided Breil organ in the Kulturkirche Heilig Kreuz on August 8, 2025. The film "Ex Machina" by British director Alex Garland will be screened on August 3, 2025.
