Bonify Security Breach: Sensitive Data Exposed in 'Face-to-Face' Authorizations

Bonify, a subsidiary of Schufa, has announced a security incident involving an external service provider. The incident affects users who used 'face-to-face' authorizations via an external processor within a specific timeframe. The compromised data includes sensitive information such as ID documents, address details, photos, and videos from the identification process.

Bonify has filed a criminal complaint and notified the responsible data protection authority. The stolen data could potentially be used for identity fraud, leading to contracts being concluded in the name of affected persons. Users are advised to be vigilant, not to disclose personal information in response to suspicious communication, and to report any suspected identity fraud.

The incident does not affect users who identified themselves via eID, PostIdent procedure, or by bank account. Sensitive login data such as bonify passwords, login information, and payment data remain unaffected. Bonify is currently contacting affected customers and working with security experts and authorities to clarify the incident. The name of the external service company involved in the video identification process is not provided.

Bonify urges affected users to remain cautious and take necessary precautions to protect their identity. The company is committed to resolving the issue and ensuring the safety of its customers' data. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
