Bomb Alert Triggers Mayhem in Mumbai and Amritsar due to an Email from 'Comrade Vijayan'
In a series of unsettling events, authorities in India are investigating bomb threats sent to two high-profile locations - the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in Mumbai.
The bomb threat to Amritsar's sacred Golden Temple, a significant Sikh pilgrimage site, was received via email on Tuesday morning. The message stated that four RDX-filled improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were placed within the BSE building and would detonate at 3 PM. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) promptly filed a police complaint, and Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed the investigation.
Cybercrime investigators have joined the probe to track the origin of the email, while forensic experts are scrutinising digital evidence to trace the sender and motive. The building was locked down and searched thoroughly, but no explosives were detected during the search.
Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the BSE received a similar threat via email on the same day. BSE officials notified the Mumbai Police, who coordinated with cybercrime and state agencies to identify the source of the email. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and police units from the locality arrived at BSE's Fort premises and initiated a thorough search operation. So far, no object of suspicion has been discovered, but the police are on high alert.
Authorities have stepped up surveillance and cyber monitoring as preventive measures, increasing security around the Golden Temple and the BSE. The attacks are an alarming increase in cyber-facilitated threats to cause panic and disruption.
