BMW iX3 and Porsche Macan EV: Design, Technology, Interior, and Performance United in Comparison (2026 Models)

The luxury electric SUV market is heating up with the debut of the BMW iX3 and Porsche Macan EV. Both vehicles offer unique features and cater to different priorities, showcasing how legacy automakers are reshaping their identities in the electric era.

Starting at approximately $60,000, the BMW iX3 is less expensive than the Porsche Macan EV, which is priced at around $78,000. The iX3 focuses on forward-looking design, more space, and balanced performance, while the Macan EV emphasizes sportiness and familiar luxury.

Both vehicles share similar exterior dimensions, with the iX3 being slightly taller and narrower than the Macan EV. They are immediately recognizable as their respective brand's models, with redesigned headlights and a grille change for the iX3 and a deleted grille for the Macan EV.

The Macan EV's design may age in the coming years due to a light bar, while the iX3's design will be shared across all Neue Klasse models. The iX3's Neue Klasse taillights are designed to look new for the foreseeable future, and the Macan EV's Neue Klasse taillights also follow this design philosophy.

In terms of cargo space, the iX3 offers a total of 61.8 cubic feet, compared to the Macan EV's maximum of 47.6 cubic feet. The BMW iX3 comes with standard xDrive, while the Macan EV has a standard rear-wheel drive setup.

The Macan Turbo (electric) offers a higher horsepower of 630 compared to the iX3's 469 horsepower. The Macan EV's interior largely mirrors its gas-powered counterpart, while the iX3's interior looks like the future with no gauge cluster.

The Macan EV's design is considered upscale due to its well-integrated screen and quality materials. It has a more aggressive rear hatch slope compared to the iX3. Both vehicles offer digital key, voice-powered commands for navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and more.

Notably, BMW has stated no plans for CarPlay Ultra, while Porsche has confirmed it will be available on many cars in their lineup.

The Porsche Macan EV is manufactured in Germany, specifically at the Leipzig plant. Both the Porsche Macan EV and BMW iX3 are fiercely competitive and are set to redefine the luxury electric SUV market.
