Australia gives green light for sale of MG's upcoming electric SUV, the MGS6 EV
The British automotive brand, MG, has announced that its latest electric vehicle (EV), the MGS6, has received approval for sale in Australia. The MGS6 EV will be offered with four variants, each designed to cater to different driving needs and preferences.
The entry-level variant, known as the COM, is expected to be the base model, offering essential features for everyday driving. The other three variants, LUX and FLG, will offer more premium features, enhanced comfort, and advanced technology.
The MGS6 EV will feature two battery pack options: a 62 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery pack in the entry-level COM RWD variant and a 77 kWh battery pack with Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese (NCM) chemistry in the other three variants. The 62 kWh battery pack can be charged up to 100% for daily use.
Riz Akhtar, a mechanical engineer and the founder of carloop, a company specializing in Australian EV data, insight reports, and trends, anticipates the starting price of the MGS6 to be around $50,000. Akhtar, who currently drives a red Tesla Model 3, has a passion for cars, particularly EVs, and wants to help reduce transport emissions in Australia.
The MGS6 EV is expected to use MG's Modular Scalable Platform, which was first introduced in the MG4 affordable hatchback. This platform is designed to offer flexibility and scalability, allowing MG to produce a range of EV models that cater to different segments of the market.
The new MGS6 is expected to be bigger than the MGS5 EV SUV, with a potential length of 4.7 meters, making it comparable to popular SUV models like the Tesla Model Y. More details about the MGS6, including key local specifications and pricing, are expected to be announced later this year.
MG's new electric model, the MGS6 EV, comes with the brand's industry-leading 10-year/250,000km warranty, providing peace of mind to potential buyers. With its four variants, two battery pack options, and the promise of competitive pricing, the MGS6 EV is poised to make a significant impact in the Australian EV market.
