Asus Finally Fixes Years-Long Gaming Laptop Stuttering Issue
Asus has pinpointed the root cause of lagging and stuttering issues affecting millions of its gaming laptops, especially those equipped with dedicated RTX 30 or RTX 40 series GPUs, following years of user complaints. The problem, which has been present since 2021, stems from methodological weaknesses in the firmware's handling of interrupts.
The issue, which has been plaguing users since 2021, results in the system getting stuck in an endless loop that periodically overloads it, leading to hitches under load and even during idle time. A thorough analysis by GitHub user Zephkek in early September 2025 confirmed these findings.
In response, Asus has announced beta BIOS updates for select batches of Strix Scar 15 (G533ZW) and Zephyrus M16 (GU604VI) from 2023. These updates, to be released via the support area in the coming week, will address the frequent hitches and maintain the warranty despite being beta versions. The company aims to cover all affected series by the beginning of October.
While the specific timeline for other affected series is yet to be confirmed, Asus is dedicated to resolving the issue for all gaming laptop owners. The beta updates are a significant step towards enhancing the performance and user experience of these devices.
