Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer announces the addition of Kramer Asia IP co-head, a prominent figure in Singapore's intellectual property scene, as a partner in their esteemed ranks.

Asia-based intellectual property (IP) specialist, previously serving as co-head at HSF Kramer, has been appointed as a partner at Freshfields.

In a strategic move, global law firm Freshfields has announced the hiring of Harry Evans as a partner in its Singapore office. Evans, a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience, brings extensive expertise in intellectual property (IP) and technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT) to Freshfields' clients.

Evans' arrival at Freshfields is noteworthy, although not mentioned as one of the first Asia partners to exit following the merger between HSF and Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel. Prior to joining Freshfields, Evans worked at Linklaters in London and Allens in Australia. He most recently served as co-head of the Asia IP/Commercial team at Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer.

Matthew O'Callaghan, Freshfields' Asia regional managing partner, expressed excitement about Evans joining the firm. O'Callaghan believes that Evans' extensive experience will be a huge asset to Freshfields' clients, particularly in the tech and life sciences sectors, which are attracting significant investment and represent a key area of growth.

Nicholas Lingard, Singapore managing partner, echoed O'Callaghan's sentiments, stating that Evans' deep expertise and proven leadership in the life sciences sector are invaluable. Evans' experience includes advising on IP and technology aspects of corporate transactions and commercial and patent disputes in the life sciences sector.

At Freshfields, Evans will collaborate with the firm's mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, and disputes teams globally. He will work closely with Richard Bird, head of Freshfields' IP/data practice group in Asia. Evans' expertise in complex commercial arrangements, particularly in the life sciences and tech sectors, will help Freshfields deliver more effective solutions for clients.

With Evans' arrival, Freshfields now has nine partners in Singapore. Freshfields is making a strategic investment into Southeast Asia and other high-growth industries with this move. The tech and life sciences sectors in Asia are expected to continue attracting significant investment, and Freshfields aims to be at the forefront of providing legal services to companies operating in these sectors.

Evans joined Freshfields as a senior associate in 2018. His previous work experience and roles were not mentioned in the current announcement. However, it is clear that Freshfields views Evans' addition as a significant boost to its capabilities in the IP and TMT sectors, particularly in the Asia region.
