Apple to Launch New External Monitor in Early 2026

Apple is set to release a new external monitor in early 2026, according to reports by Bloomberg. The upcoming monitor, internally codenamed J427, is expected to be a 27-inch display with mini-LED technology, offering an upgrade over the current LED-backlit Studio Display introduced in 2022.

The new monitor is rumoured to be a successor to the Studio Display, although its exact naming remains uncertain. It is anticipated to be a significant update, marking Apple's first major external display refresh in several years.

Key features of the new monitor include mini-LED backlighting, which could provide better contrast, higher brightness, and a slimmer design than the existing Studio Display. The monitor is also expected to be paired with the release of Apple's M5 MacBook Pro line.

In contrast, the Pro Display XDR monitor, which was released by Apple in 2019, will not be part of the new external monitors Apple is expected to release in 2026. The Pro Display XDR monitor, initially sold for $5,000, is designed for professional setups rather than everyday consumers and is not expected to be replaced.

The new Apple external monitor will retail at $1,599, placing it at a slightly higher price range than some of the best gaming monitors. Its screen size and design are expected to be similar to the 2022 Studio Display monitor, with a 5K Retina display, 5120-by-2880 resolution, and 600 nits brightness.

It's also worth noting that Apple is reportedly working on robots, but they are several years away from ever seeing the light of day. The Pro Display XDR monitor is not part of the products Apple is reportedly working on, including robots.

For those interested in Apple's current offerings, the stand for the Pro Display XDR monitor was sold separately for $999. Apple's Studio Display monitor, released three years ago, is still available for purchase.
