Samsung is making waves in the smartphone industry with its latest development: a next-generation continuous zoom camera. This innovative technology, which promises to deliver smooth optical-quality zoom across a full range, similar to a standalone camera, could potentially revolutionise smartphone photography.

The continuous zoom system works by dividing a telephoto module's lenses into several groups and shifting them precisely to adjust focal length. This creates smooth, uninterrupted magnification, unlike current smartphone zoom systems that are stuck at fixed steps, like 2x or 10x, with digital zoom filling the gaps and degrading quality.

Xiaomi is rumoured to be one of the Chinese brands that will showcase this continuous zoom technology. In fact, Xiaomi will reportedly be the first to introduce the continuous zoom camera system developed by Samsung in its Android flagships. The exact brand that will launch the first phone with a continuous zoom lens has not been named yet, but previous rumours point to Xiaomi.

The continuous zoom technology is expected to significantly improve long-distance zoom performance and keep images sharp even at higher zoom levels on upcoming flagship models. It's also said to keep photos crisp even at higher magnifications. This could potentially replace old telephoto and periscope sensors, with the continuous zoom camera from Samsung expected to phase out these sensors in future phones.

The continuous zoom camera system created by Samsung Electro-Mechanics is intended for several Chinese phone makers. The continuous zoom system is not expected to be featured in any Galaxy devices initially.

This exciting development in smartphone photography is based on reports from The Elec and Android Authority. The current standard on many phones, periscope lenses deliver 3x to 10x optical zoom. However, with Samsung's continuous zoom technology on the horizon, it seems that the future of smartphone photography is looking brighter than ever.

Stay tuned for more updates as we await the official launch of the first continuous zoom camera in the smartphone market.
