Electrification and upgraded level crossings promise faster, safer trains. But will barrier closing times increase with higher frequencies?

Amerikalinie Expansion to Boost Train Services and Quality of Life by 2030

The Amerikalinie expansion project is set to improve train services and quality of life along the Langwedel - Soltau - Uelzen route. While level crossings will remain, they will be upgraded with modern technology. The federal government's aim is to increase train numbers by 2030.

The expansion will see the Langwedel-Uelzen section electrified, creating overtaking opportunities and increasing the maximum speed. Noise protection measures will also be implemented. Level crossings will be upgraded with digital signal boxes and ETCS Level 2 technology. However, DB-AG is not required to make them barrier-free due to speed limits.

The project, which aims to increase train services by 2030, involves two main interests: enhancing train services and improving life along railway lines. While barrier closing times at level crossings may initially decrease, they could increase overall due to higher train frequencies. Detailed information, including isophonic maps and a virtual route flight, is available on the project website.

The Amerikalinie expansion project is underway, aiming to improve train services and quality of life along the Langwedel - Soltau - Uelzen route. With electrification, upgraded level crossings, and noise protection measures, the project seeks to enhance the railway experience by 2030.
