Amazon's Prime Households to Reach 63.9M U.S. by 2019
Amazon's Prime membership base is set to reach 63.9 million U.S. households by 2019, with 51.3% of households subscribed. This growing user base could significantly impact Amazon's promotional strategies for its own devices and commonly-sold household items.
Amazon Household allows multiple users within a single household to have their own log-in for shopping and accessing Prime content. This feature, along with the integration of Alexa and Dash technologies into partner devices like Sonos and Samsung's smart speakers, is expected to drive further growth.
The annual Prime membership price increased to $119 last year. However, offering installment payments and multiple user log-ins could help offset cost concerns. This affordability, coupled with attractive program offerings, is particularly appealing to lower-income households and consumers.
With Prime users spending an average of $1,400 annually on Amazon, more than double what non-Prime members spend, the increasing Prime household base could be crucial as Amazon expands into the smart home market. This growth could influence Amazon's promotional strategies and partnerships, potentially leading to more integrated and affordable smart home solutions.
