Alpha Trains Orders 15 Vectron Dual Mode Locomotives from Siemens Mobility
Alpha Trains, a prominent private lessor of rail vehicles, has ordered 15 additional Vectron Dual Mode locomotives from Siemens Mobility. The order, part of a framework agreement signed in July 2024, will see the new locomotives used in Germany and Austria.
The Vectron Dual Mode (VDM) locomotives, set to be produced at Siemens Mobility's Munich-Allach plant, are praised for their modular design and flexibility. Andre Rodenbeck, CEO of Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility, described them as an ideal supplement to Alpha Trains' fleet.
Vincent Pouyet, CEO of the Locomotives business area at Alpha Trains, highlighted the sustainability and operational flexibility offered by dual-mode locomotives. The ordered VDMs can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, providing freight services with a maximum wheel power of 2.4 megawatts in electric mode and 2 megawatts in diesel mode. Their ability to operate on both electrified and non-electrified tracks reduces operational effort and increases efficiency.
Alpha Trains' procurement of 15 Vectron Dual Mode locomotives from Siemens Mobility is expected to enhance its fleet's flexibility and sustainability. The new locomotives, to be produced in Munich, will serve both German and Austrian tracks, demonstrating Alpha Trains' commitment to efficient and eco-friendly rail transport.
