Airbus Names Lars Wagner as New CEO of Commercial Aircraft Division
Airbus has announced changes in its top management. Lars Wagner, currently CEO of MTU Aero Engines in Munich, will join Airbus in early 2026 as CEO of its commercial aircraft division in Toulouse. He will succeed Christian Scherer, who will remain at the helm until the transition. Wagner's appointment comes after he announced in 2025 that he would not extend his contract with MTU.
Wagner, who holds degrees in aerospace engineering and business administration, has a robust background in the aviation sector. He has previously held leadership roles at both Airbus and MTU. Currently, he serves as Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) of MTU, a position he has held since January 2023 and May 2022 respectively. Upon joining Airbus, Wagner will become the number two in the company, joining the Executive Committee.
Meanwhile, Guillaume Faury will be proposed for re-election as Executive member of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Airbus at the 2025 Annual General Meeting.
Wagner's appointment is expected to bring his extensive experience in the aviation industry to Airbus's commercial aircraft division. His background remover in sustainability is also seen as a valuable addition. The transition is set to take place in early 2026, with Scherer remaining in charge until then.
