AI usage has surged across the United States, with Washington, D.C. leading the way. California ranks third, following Utah. Globally, higher-income countries and those with high adaptation rates are embracing AI more widely.
In just two years, AI use has doubled in the US. Now, 40% of employees report using AI at work, up from 20% in 2023. This growth is evident in California, which has seen a significant increase in AI usage, placing it third among states, after Utah and Washington, D.C.
Washington, D.C. stands out with nearly four times higher AI usage than expected based on its population. This high per-capita usage reflects the city's diverse range of AI applications. Meanwhile, Colorado's AI use is heavily focused on travel and event planning, while in Washington, D.C., it's more prevalent in document editing and career advice.
Globally, higher-income countries like Singapore and Canada are adopting AI at above-average rates. High-adaptation countries use AI for a wider range of tasks, unlike lower-adoption countries that often use it mainly for coding.
AI's impact is evident worldwide, with businesses increasingly using generative AI tools for automation. The US, Japan, and the UK are notable for their substantial investments and applications in AI technology. As AI use continues to grow, it's reshaping workplaces and industries across the globe.
