AI Funding Announcement: $21 Million Series A Secured for Cloud-Based AI Agent Infrastructure
E2B, a provider of open-source cloud infrastructure for AI agents, has announced that it has secured $21 million in Series A funding. The funding round was led by Insight Partners and supported by Decibel, Sunflower Capital, Kaya, and angel investor Scott Johnston.
Insight Partners, a venture capital and private equity firm, supports E2B's goal of equipping AI agents with safe, scalable, and highly performant cloud infrastructure. Praveen Akkiraju, Managing Director at Insight Partners, expressed excitement about backing E2B's visionary team.
"We believe that E2B's open-source sandbox standard will become a cornerstone of secure and scalable AI adoption," Akkiraju said. He also acknowledged the rapid growth and enterprise adoption that E2B has achieved, with 88% of Fortune 100 companies having signed up with E2B, including AI companies like Hugging Face, Perplexity, and Groq.
E2B's open-source cloud infrastructure features sandboxed cloud environments that provide AI agents with their own dedicated, highly performant virtual personal computers, including browsers, file systems, and compute platforms. This enables agents to run complex, multi-step workflows securely and at scale, matching or exceeding human-level computational capability.
Key features of E2B's infrastructure include sandboxed environments (microVMs powered by Firecracker) that start in under 200 milliseconds, offering safe, isolated execution for AI-generated code without compromising security or stability. The infrastructure is designed specifically for AI agent workloads, enabling rapid spin-up and shutdown of environments and scaling to millions of virtual machines.
E2B also supports diverse programming languages, AI frameworks, and LLMs, ensuring broad compatibility and flexibility in deployment. The infrastructure provides tools and protocols facilitating agent workflows, including modules like Secrets Vault (secure credential management), Sandbox Observability (real-time monitoring and compliance), and Shared Context (persistent, collaborative state management).
E2B's open-source sandbox protocol aims to become a universal standard for AI agent environments, promoting community-driven extensibility and consistent interfaces across infrastructure providers (Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, etc.). Enterprises can deploy E2B either in their own cloud or on-premises, providing control over security and operational policies.
The benefits emphasized in the funding announcement include enabling enterprises to unleash and scale armies of AI agents efficiently to perform tasks such as building websites, generating expert reports, debugging software, and training AI models—tasks that require high speed and scale. The infrastructure provides a secure, flexible, and transparent runtime environment that supports agentic workflows with reinforcement learning loops and rapid execution, addressing current limitations of legacy infrastructure not built for AI agents.
E2B's infrastructure also supports enterprise-grade production use, trusted by major companies including 88% of the Fortune 100, highlighting reliability and industrial readiness. The infrastructure facilitates a new era of productivity by becoming the standard runtime infrastructure for agent-driven work, fostering adoption at scale in enterprises.
Vasek Mlejnsky, Co-founder and CEO of E2B, asserts that E2B aims to provide the standard runtime infrastructure for the new era of work. An unnamed source also stated that E2B solves the problem of AI agents scaling and performing on legacy infrastructure not designed for agentic use.
The funds will be used to expand E2B's cloud offerings and scale its global enterprise teams. With this funding, E2B is poised to continue its mission of providing a secure, scalable, and performant cloud infrastructure for AI agents, enabling enterprises to harness the power of AI for a wide range of applications.
