2025 Aircraft Interior Expo: Cutting-edge Developments and Emerging Patterns
The Crystal Cabin Award (CCA), an annual accolade by the Hamburg Aviation cluster since 2007, is gearing up for its 2025 edition. The winners of this prestigious award will be presented by the jury during a gala event on April 8.
This year, the CCA introduces two new themes: "Accessibility" and "Judges' Choice: Airline Innovation." Four airlines - Air France, Air India, Cathay Pacific, and United Airlines - have submitted ideas for the latter category. Unfortunately, current search results do not provide details about the submissions from these four airlines.
In the realm of accessibility, Collins Aerospace presents a system that eliminates the need for wheelchair users to transfer to a passenger seat, while Cathay Pacific unveils the "Aria Suite" business class seat, designed for easier access to premium class for wheelchair users. Diehl Aviation, on the other hand, has designed a flexible approach to make aircraft toilets more accessible to wheelchair users.
Meanwhile, students from the Chinese Tongji University in Shanghai, in cooperation with Boeing, have developed an "Ultra Lightweight Display System" for airlines. This innovative system uses miniaturized projectors and gesture recognition technologies for a new in-flight entertainment system.
The aircraft cabin outfitting industry is expected to reach an annual turnover of $8.83 billion by 2030, with a growing emphasis on sustainability. The necessity to address climate change has driven the industry to develop a range of sustainable products.
The Aircraft Interiors Expo 2025 (AIX) is a global leading trade fair for commercial aircraft cabin details. Last year, the AIX attracted 12,000 industry visitors, including numerous airline representatives. This year, exhibitors such as CesiumAstro, showcasing the latest technological developments in on-board entertainment systems, and Airbus, presenting an A220 mockup and the cross-type Airspace concept, are set to make their mark.
Wolfgang Borgmann, editor at AERO INTERNATIONAL since February 2022, oversees the Industry & Technology section. With 30 years of experience as an aviation journalist, Borgmann is a seasoned professional in the field.
As the countdown to the CCA 2025 begins, the anticipation for groundbreaking innovations in aircraft cabin design is palpable. Stay tuned for more updates on the finalists and winners in the coming months.
